The main transatlantic cruise from Southampton is Cunard's Queen Mary 2 to New York, 7 nights with no ports. It is one-way, so settle first how you will get home. The 14-night round trip is the simplest way back with no flight.

The schedule lists 20 direct crossings from 10 November 2026 to 18 October 2028, and 18 of them last 7 nights. Add the longer voyages through Iceland, Greenland and Canada, and this group comes to 71 sailings. Fares are starting fares per person in US dollars with taxes and fees included, from a booking partner that sells to North American buyers, read 2 November 2026. The line or a UK agent may quote you something different. Every sailing is in the table at the end of this guide.

What is a transatlantic crossing from Southampton?

It is a voyage across the Atlantic with no ports in between, and Cunard is the line that sells it under that name. Cunard describes Queen Mary 2 as the world's only ocean liner, and its crossing pages promise seven nights at sea, sailing westbound from Southampton or Hamburg, or eastbound from New York.

The itinerary is simple. The ship leaves Southampton at 16:00 or 17:00, spends six full days at sea and reaches New York at 06:30 on day 8, according to the itineraries Cruisebound shows. Cunard says its New York sailings use Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, in Red Hook, not the Manhattan terminal, so check that before you book a hotel or a flight.

How long does Queen Mary 2 take from Southampton to New York?

A direct crossing takes 7 nights, and a few take longer.

  • 8 nights with a stop. Queen Mary 2 calls at Le Havre on the way on 24 June 2027 and 4 June 2028.
  • 8 nights direct. One sailing, from 27 February 2028.
  • 9 nights on another ship. Queen Victoria crosses in 9 nights from 10 January 2027, on the first leg of her world voyage.

How often does Queen Mary 2 sail from Southampton to New York?

About once a month from spring to December, with no fixed day of the week. Fridays are the most common on our schedule, but crossings leave on other days too.

The 2027 dates for a 7-night crossing are 12 May, 7 June, 16 July, 13 August, 10 September, 13 October, 12 November and 14 December. There is a long gap before that. After 12 December 2026 the next direct Queen Mary 2 sailing we list is 12 May 2027, and Queen Victoria's January crossing is the only one in between.

Our schedule lists sailings that leave Southampton, so eastbound crossings from New York are not on it. Cunard sells those on its own site.

How do I get home from a one-way crossing?

You have three ways home from New York, and only the ship avoids a flight. Of the 71 sailings in this group, 50 are one-way and 21 are round trips.

The round trip. Queen Mary 2 reaches New York at 06:30 and leaves at 17:00 the same day, then arrives back in Southampton at 06:30 a week later. That gives you one day in New York, which matches Cunard's own listing. Cunard sells the same departure both ways, so you choose 7 nights or 14 when you book. The 2027 round trips leave on 12 May, 7 June, 16 July and 13 October.

The flight. Pack for the flight, not the ship, because the airline's baggage limits apply on the way home. Ask Cunard or your travel agent whether a flight can be added to the booking, and compare that with buying one yourself.

Staying in New York. The ship does not wait for you. Cunard's eastbound departures from New York in summer 2027 include 19 May, 14 June and 23 July, about a month apart. A week or two in New York therefore means a flight home.

What are the other transatlantic routes from Southampton?

Everything else in this group takes 12 nights or more, and the other lines' voyages are all one-way. They go by way of Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland, or south through Spain, Portugal and the Azores.

  • Round trip home through Iceland. 21 nights from 13 August 2027 and 14 July 2028, going out to New York and Halifax and returning by Reykjavik, Akureyri and Kristiansand. You see Canada with no flight at either end.

Queen Mary 2 has 82 listings on this site, because one departure is sold at several lengths and she also sails to Norway and Northern Europe. Her ship page lists them all.

How much does a transatlantic cruise from Southampton cost?

On 2 November 2026, direct crossings ran from US$399 to US$1,839 per person, and 7-night fares ran from US$399 to US$1,839. One-way sailings in the wider group started at US$399, and round trips at US$2,239.

Compare a round trip with the one-way fare plus your flight, because the one-way fare is the smaller number but not the whole cost. Cunard charges gratuities in US dollars by the day, and our first-time cruiser guide has the figures.

Which Southampton terminal does Queen Mary 2 use?

ABP's schedule has Queen Mary 2 at the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal on every call from November 2026 to 31 March 2027, the last day it covers. Ships do change terminal at Southampton, so go by your boarding pass for a later sailing, and check the calendar for the current berth.

What documents do I need for a crossing to New York?

A crossing ends in the USA, so British citizens using the Visa Waiver Program need an ESTA, and you need a passport that meets the rules for your stay. A Canada voyage has its own rule. Our documents guide covers both, with the current ESTA fee.

Does a crossing work the other way for North Americans?

Yes. If you live in North America, a westbound crossing takes you home, so you fly to the UK and sail back. Our airports guide covers Heathrow and Gatwick to the port, and the documents guide explains the UK ETA.
